Welcome to the memorial page for

Arthur William "Bill" Gilmore

July 3, 1937 ~ September 28, 2017 (age 80)

Arthur William “Bill” Gilmore, 80 years young, passed away at Hardin Memorial Hospital in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, on Thursday 28 September 2017 from complications following a heart attack.

He was born to Arthur Blake Gilmore and Marie Evelyn “Eva” Schupp on 03 July 1937 in Otterville, Missouri.  He spent much of his early life farming and ranching with his Grandfather, Ernest A. W. Schupp, and his Grandmother, Stella Marie Hoodap. After a tour of duty in the US Navy, Bill returned to Missouri and lived there most of his life until retiring south to San Antonio Texas with his beloved wife Winnonah Marie Lemen Gilmore in 2001. He remained in San Antonio until Winnonah’s passing in January 2015, then moved back to the green Kentucky countryside to live out his remaining days.

Bill is survived by four biological children, Debra Lynn Dirlam, Denise Lucille Cooper, Darla Louise Beamon, and Daryl William Gilmore, as well as three step-children, Jason Aaron Landes, Justin Dwayne Landes, and Dustin Wayne Landes. Bill is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his only three younger siblings, Evelyn Marie Gilmore Naylor, Edna Vale Gilmore Kindle, and Robert Blake Gilmore.

Bill was a cowboy in both body and soul.  He was a bull-riding, bronc-busting, cattle-driving man who was so tough his family called him “a walking piece of leather with eyes”. He worked hard his entire life to put food on the table and a roof over the heads of his family. Through the years spent working with his Grandfather, Bill developed a deep knowledge of the old ways of ranching and farming, and he knew an amazing array of facts about how to raise and care for all types of livestock and crops. After he retired his favorite activity was watching the geese on the pond and the deer in the field. Bill will be missed by his family and friends, but we know he is now reunited with his loving wife Winnonah Marie in Heaven above.

A public visitation will be held on Monday 02 October 2017 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Coffey & Chism Funeral Home, located at 765 Highland Ave in Vine Grove KY 40175. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the Arthur William Gilmore Memorial Fund, c/o Chase Bank, 500 West Lincoln Trail Blvd., Radcliff KY 40160. May the Lord bless you and keep you.
